About Online Learning
USciences Online gives you the power of a top-ranked university at your fingertips.
Online learning is a convenient way to further your education from wherever you are and on your schedule. You can earn a degree or complete a certificate from the comfort of your home, and continue to work or fulfill other responsibilities. Whether you want to complete your bachelor’s, accelerate your career with a master’s, or explore a new field with a certificate, our career-focused programs will get you to where you want to be, with proven student support along the way.
What’s Asynchronous Learning?
All USciences Online programs are asynchronous, meaning instruction doesn’t occur in the same place or at the same time. As a USciences Online student, you won’t attend scheduled lectures, but will instead log on and complete coursework according to your availability. You should plan to designate about 16 hours per week to complete your coursework. Online courses operate on a weekly schedule that starts on Monday and concludes on Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
Our learning management system, Brightspace, gives you access to instructional videos, syllabi, learning materials, student discussions, and information about your instructor and how to contact them. Before beginning a program, your Student Success Coach will guide you through an orientation to introduce you to the learning platform and what to expect during your first week.
How Are Online Courses Structured?
Each course is made up of an introduction and eight learning modules. You’ll complete one module per week throughout your eight-week course. Modules include both graded and non-graded content such as:
- Knowledge checks
- A final exam
Getting in Touch With Your Professors
USciences Online professors are committed to your success and want to help you meet your education and career goals. Despite not attending a traditional course in a classroom, you will still have one-on-one access to your professors to discuss your progress, get individualized support, and connect with more resources. Each course on the learning platform has a dedicated instructor page so you can get to know your professor, schedule a meeting, or ask a question on their virtual office hours message board.
Getting the Help You Need
Technical support is available to you 24/7/365. If you have any issues with the learning management system, you can contact the Brightspace Help Desk. The USciences Help Desk is also available to help you with any computing needs. If you ever have any questions about coursework on the learning management system, you can contact your instructor.
You Can Do This
Online learning may feel intimidating, but the learning management system is easy to use. In fact, online learning can be more interactive than traditional classroom learning and makes it easier to be collaborative during the duration of a course. Most importantly, you’ll have a team of people dedicated to your success to help you along the way.
